3 Ways to Prepare for Oral Surgery
At The Dental Care Center, we routinely complete common oral surgery treatment in our Van Nuys dental office, such as placing dental implant and extracting teeth, including symptomatic wisdom teeth. Just because we commonly perform these procedures doesn’t mean we get complacent, however!
We like to ensure that each patient has the best experience possible and that you heal properly.
Here Are Three Ways You Can Prepare for Oral Surgery
Step one: Make sure your gums are healthy. An active infection in your gums can quickly spread to healthy tissue. This is especially important when having treatment such as dental implants so that you have the best chance of success with your investment in your treatment.
If you experience bleeding in your gums, sensitivity, or pain of any kind, let us know so that we can effectively treat any underlying dental conditions. We may recommend a prescription antimicrobial rinse to assist with limiting the spread of infection.
Step two: Discuss a tooth replacement plan with one of our knowledgeable dentists. A dental extraction can cause negative consequences for both your health and your appearance. We can make a plan to replace your missing tooth before we even begin treatment and quickly replace the gap in your smile.
Some of our options include dental implants, a fixed dental bridge, or partial dentures.
Step three: Stock up on some healthy, soft foods. You will be sore for a couple of days after an extraction or any surgery. Fruit smoothies, yogurt, and bisque soups can provide nutrition and avoid irritating your delicate tissue while you heal.
It’s also a good idea to have a plan for pain management. In most cases, an over-the-counter medication like ibuprofen will relieve your discomfort.
